Simon Tonkin  

Simon Tonkin has specialized in maritime law for over 30 years and has litigated many admiralty cases. He has been designated a Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyer and is “AV” rated by Martindale Hubbell.

 

Mr. Tonkin was an assistant Missouri Attorney General from 1978-1982. He is a former chairman of the Admiralty Law Committee of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and Adjunct Assistant Professor at St. Louis University Law School.

 

Mr. Tonkin is a member of the Missouri and Illinois Bars. He has handled cases in many federal courts and is a member of the Bar of the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Missouri, the Southern and Central Districts of Illinois, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh and Eighth Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court.

 

He was educated at Johns Hopkins University (B.A. 1971), Cambridge University (Dip. Crim. 1974) and the University of Wisconsin Law School (J.D. 1978). Prior to attending law school, he worked as a St. Louis police officer.

 

Mr. Tonkin speaks frequently at seminars on admiralty law. He is a member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, the American Bar Association and the Maritime Law Association of the United States.

James K. Mondl

Jim Mondl is a founding member of Tonkin & Mondl and has specialized in admiralty law for nearly 30 years. He has extensive trial experience in federal and state courts. He has been designated a Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyer and is “AV” rated by Martindale Hubbell.


Mr. Mondl was educated at Northern Illinois University (B.A. 1984; J.D. 1988), where he ranked first in his law class. He served as a research attorney for the Illinois Supreme Court (1988). Jim Mondl is a member of the Missouri and Illinois Bars, as well as federal district court Bars in Missouri and Illinois, and the Bars of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh, Eighth and Tenth Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and is a proctor member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States.


Mr. Mondl recently served as chairman of the Admiralty Law Committee of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. He has published papers on various topics involving maritime law, and is a regular speaker at admiralty law conferences in St. Louis and New Orleans. He also taught political science courses at Webster University.

 

Jim is the past-president of the 200 member Lake St. Louis Water Ski Club, and is an active skier on its competitive ski team. He has also certified hundreds of students as a certified scuba instructor, and is an underwater tour guide at the Bonne Terre Mine.

Richard D. McNelley

Rich McNelley has been an admiralty law specialist with Tonkin & Mondl since 2008. He became a partner in the firm in January 2014. Mr. McNelley has extensive jury trial experience and, prior to joining Tonkin & Mondl, he served as a Missouri State Public Defender in the City of St. Louis for three and a half years. He is a veteran, who spent five years in the military.
 
Mr. McNelley was educated at Washburn University (B.A., 1999, Magna Cum Laude; J.D., 2002, Cum Laude), where he ranked near the top of his law school class. He was a speaker at the 2009 Admiralty Law Seminar sponsored by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and has co-written several maritime law articles.
 
Rich is a member of the Missouri and Illinois Bars, as well as the Bars of the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Missouri and the Northern, Central, and Southern Districts of Illinois, and of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Shannon Oberkrom

Shannon Oberkrom is a lawyer with Tonkin & Mondl. She has been with the firm since early 2012. She is principally involved in performing legal research, writing briefs and assisting with discovery.

 

Ms. Oberkrom was educated at the University of Missouri (Bachelor of Social Work, 2002, Summa Cum Laude) and St. Louis University School of Law (J.D. 2009), where she attended law school on a full scholarship. She is a member of the Missouri Bar.

Olga Stojanovic

Olga Stojanovic is a paralegal at Tonkin & Mondl, LC. She is involved in obtaining records and other information and in the preparation of exhibits. She analyzes data in complex cases and summarizes depositions and medical records.

 

Ms. Stojanovic graduated from University of Missouri-St. Louis with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Finance. In addition, she has a master’s degree in Legal Analysis from Webster University, St. Louis, MO. In Kazakhstan she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

Nick Hoefle

Nick Hoefle is the Office Manager at Tonkin & Mondl. He oversees the business operations of the firm, including billing, purchasing and payroll. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri-St. Louis (B.S., Economics, 2015).
